It was great. It’s a village in Ladakh named Hanle. It has world’s highest observatory and renowned for star gazing. The village imposes switch off time of 11 pm so that everyone can enjoy Milky Way and millions of stars. June to September are typically clear skies since Ladakh doesn’t receive monsoons, it being a cold high altitude desert.
It’s 270 km from Leh and atleast 7 hours drive by car. It’s above the level of Leh which is (11,500 ft) and Hanle 14,750ft.

I’m excited to share about the best motorable road in Leh !!! It’s about a 260 km journey from Leh city, taking around 7 hours to reach. You’ll be at an impressive altitude of nearly 15,000 feet ! Since there’s not much to see during the day, we decided to head out of Leh at 2 PM and arrived in Hanle by 8 PM. Make sure to book your room before you go, as finding accommodation once you arrive can be quite tricky! If you’re a stargazing fan, you can start spotting the Milky Way after 9 PM, but trust me, it’s even more stunning if you catch it at 2 AM. This is India’s first and only Dark Sky Reserve, and let me tell you, the night sky here is incredible. You can pretty much see the Milky Way without any binoculars! It’s definitely a place you should check out. Just keep in mind, there aren’t any fancy hotels only some decent homestays available.
